The man met at the Møre og Romsdal District Court on Tuesday. He admitted to stealing clothes, lanterns, belts and other equipment from the police warehouse. The remodel and move should have meant he could go a long way without the thefts being discovered.

– I crossed the line where I lied to myself to accept what I did and think it was okay, the former police chief explained in court on Tuesday.

The prosecution is seeking a sentence of nine months of unconditional imprisonment. In addition, the Møre og Romsdal police district asked to be reimbursed approximately NOK 400,000.

Sunnmørsposten writes that the man believes that nine months’ imprisonment is too severe a punishment.

– I have a responsibility to provide assistance and I can hardly see that I will be able to fulfill it if I receive a longer and unconditional sentence in addition to the compensation claims, he said in court.

The case proceeds as a confession case in district court. This means the case gets streamlined treatment because the man acknowledged the actions.
