Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md admitted that he would conduct further discussions regarding the state debt to businessman Jusuf Hamka. However, the discussion awaits a meeting with Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
“Indeed, to this day I have not met the Minister of Finance since meeting Jusuf Hamka, why? Because of that, Mrs. Sri Mulyani continues to report abroad, to London, to Paris, and others, while I have working visits to various regions, Mahfud said as reported detikJatengThursday (29/6/2023).
Mahfud confirmed that the issue of state debt to Jusuf Hamka would be resolved. He considered it as the state’s obligation to provide certainty to its people.
“This is a national problem that must also be resolved, the country cannot hunt down people who owe money to the country. But the country’s obligations or the country’s debt to the people are constantly being expanded, in-review continue for many years that is not possible,” he explained.
However, Mahfud admitted that he did not want to rush into solving problems related to his debt to Jusuf Hamka. Mahfud admitted that he would still be looking for the right moment.
“Because this is a civil relationship, it is a debt, there is no need to rush it later. In the sense that we are looking for the right time to talk,” he continued.
