Jakarta –
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD attended the halal bihalal Association of Indonesian Muslim Scholars (ICMI) in Central Jakarta. During the event, Mahfud reminded the majority not to act arbitrarily.
“You can be proud that I am in Indonesia, in Indonesia I am the majority. Yes, in Indonesia I am in the majority, in America not (the majority), in France not,” said Mahfud in his speech at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Friday (12/5/2023).
Mahfud then gave an example when a priest in the United States wanted to burn the Koran, but the Muslims there couldn’t do much. This happened because Muslims in the United States are a minority.
“We can’t do anything about it, why? Because we are in the minority. Therefore, the majority should not be arbitrary to the minority because we are in another place a minority, in France we were beaten up,” he said.
Mahfud also reminded the majority to respect people of other religions. “Let him have his own God, don’t be insulted, don’t be disturbed, don’t act on behalf of the majority, because the majority here, there can become a minority,” he said.
“If we don’t want our minority brothers in Europe, America, and so on, we don’t want to be insulted,” he added.
