Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan expressed his hopes for Christmas 2023 which will coincide with the 2024 elections. Luhut said that the five-year political contestation would run peacefully.
“Yes, I convey peace, hopefully it will color all the recesses of our hearts and we have had many elections. I see that this election should be better than the last one. Yes, there are shortcomings here and there, right? “It’s impossible to be perfect,” said Luhut, in a video uploaded to his Instagram account, seen Monday (25/12/2023).
“Well, we are cheerleaders like me, if I say cheerleaders or those who are not directly involved in it, we also help create a cool atmosphere so that Indonesia improves,” he said.
Luhut said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s achievements were extraordinary. He said that if there is a President-elect in 2024, Jokowi will introduce him to world leaders.
“Because, in my opinion, Pak Jokowi’s achievements are extraordinary. So I also saw that most recently, President Jokowi Widodo really handed over his acceptance to the future President-elect, whoever,” said Luhut.
“He said… ‘When there is an elected President, I will accompany, introduce, figures I know, such as MBS, MBZ, etc., Presidents or heads of state whose relations with us are good, I will introduce them’ “So, don’t waste time just building these personal relationships,” said Luhut, repeating Jokowi’s statement.
Luhut said the personal relationships of other countries’ leaders with Jokowi had an impact on Indonesia’s progress.
“I feel that during my time as President, personal relationships are very, very important to achieve the progress of this republic,” he explained.
Furthermore, at this Christmas moment, Luhur is grateful that he has recovered from illness. He is also grateful to have passed this phase of life. Luhut said that as the President’s assistant he was still trusted to contribute.
“There is something special in the context because I have just recovered from illness and maybe I am more grateful because of my illness yesterday. And secondly, I am also grateful to have gone through many phases of life over the past year,” he explained.
