Jakarta

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan is receiving attention because it will be difficult to declare the purchase of petrol cars. Looking at the other side, Luhut, who is aggressively pushing for the acceleration of electric cars in the country, actually doesn’t have a pure electric car yet. Here’s the contents of the garage.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut diligently reports the amount of his assets in the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) State Administrators Wealth Report (LHKPN). In the latest assets submitted on March 30, 2023, Luhut has a wealth of IDR 897,656,844,079 (IDR 897.6 billion).

Of the total Rp. 897.6 billion, specifically for transportation equipment and machinery or the contents of the garage, it reached Rp. 4,445,097,000 (Rp. 4.4 billion). Consisting of three cars and two motorbikes, the interesting thing is that there is one new car that has been registered or has not been listed in the previous year’s LHKPN.

The two motorbikes that still adorn Luhut’s garage include the 2015 Honda Solo NF11T11C1MT worth IDR 7,450,000 and the 2020 Honda Solo – H1BO2N42Lo A/T worth IDR 17,647,000.

Then the two cars that are still the same compared to last year’s assets are the 2006 Isuzu Panther LM worth IDR 60 million, and the 2016 Toyota Alphard 3.5 QA/T worth IDR 825 million.

The newest car registered as an asset to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut is the Lexus LS500h Executive in 2022. The price is estimated at IDR 3,535,000,000. This is a luxury sedan that adopts a hybrid electrification system.

Meanwhile, one car that is no longer included in Luhut’s latest assets, namely the 2016 Lexus LS 460. In the previous year’s LHKPN, the car was registered with an estimated price of IDR 1,250,000,000.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut’s statement will complicate the purchase of petrol cars

Not long ago Luhut admitted that he would make it difficult to buy gasoline-powered cars in Indonesia. Luhut has asked Chinese manufacturers to produce more electric cars in Indonesia. Then at the same time, his party is trying to limit the purchase of gasoline cars.

“So yesterday when we went to China, we encouraged them to produce more. And we will also gradually start making it difficult, in quotes, (buying) gasoline cars,” said Luhut.

Luhut also revealed the reasons why his party intends to make it difficult to buy petrol cars. According to him, these vehicles produce a lot of emissions. Meanwhile big cities like Jakarta are having problems with poor air quality. He hopes that by switching people from petrol cars to electric cars, air pollution in big cities in Indonesia can be reduced.
