Coordinated police operation in Toulon – News

Since the start of the year, this is the 8th operation of this type carried out in the department after Beaucaire (Toulon), Gabelle (Fréjus), Val des Rougières (Hyères), Berthe (la Seyne-sur-Mer ), Sainte-Musse (Toulon) and Pontcarral (Toulon).

Mobilization of all services

The global approach operation begun at the end of October in the old center of Toulon aimed to fight against violence against people by mobilizing all services and strengthening the police presence on the ground. It also involved carrying out anti-drug actions and checks against slumlords.

Several legal operations under the authority of the Toulon public prosecutor, but also CODAF operations (departmental anti-fraud operational committee) and operations in public transport were thus carried out with the assistance of the following services:

• police services: DDSP, CRS granted as reinforcement under the PNSR, border police
• Customs
• the departmental directorate for population protection
• the departmental directorate of public finances
• labor inspection
• Toulon municipal police

Review of operations since the end of October

Since the end of October, actions aimed at destabilizing traffic within the old center have increased. They mobilized up to a hundred police officers daily, including a large number of CRSRepublican security companies affected in the Var as part of the National Enhanced Security Plan (PNSR).

These days of action made it possible to obtain very favorable results:

• 16 people arrested for drug trafficking or possession/use of drugs, including 10 placed in pre-trial detention.
• Dcomplete dismantling of the deal point in the Visitation district.Two other downtown deal points have been considerably weakened and are almost neutralized with the arrests of recent days.
• 3 500 euros in cash were also seized as well as 378 g of cannabis and 13 g of heroin.
• 352 people and 127 controlled vehicles.

CODAF’s anti-fraud operations led to the control of around twenty establishments giving rise to:

• 4 procedures for concealed work;
• 46 kg of hookah tobacco seized by the customs service;
• 1 administrative procedure for closing a snack bar due to major non-compliance in terms of hygiene;
• 5 warnings or formal notices issued by the administration;
• 1 criminal procedure initiated for carrying out a hairdressing activity without being under the control of a qualified person.

48.84% drop in violence committed on public roads

The global security operation in the old center of Toulon made it possible to reduce intentional attacks on physical integrity (AVIP) by 48.84% compared to the month preceding the start of the operation.

It also has a positive effect on the entire city center with a reduction 51,09 % physical violence (- 64.29% of villainous violence and – 53.47% of non-villainous violence).

Upcoming actions

The dynamic initiated in recent weeks in the old center of Toulon will continue, in particular on the strengthening of links between national and municipal police through the signing of a coordination agreement and thus increase the presence of personnel on the ground.

A new city contract will also soon be signed with a security component to promote the achievements.
