The news has just fallen: the cooperative cellar of Argelès-sur-Mer has won 4 gold medals at the Grenaches du monde competition which was held this year in New York.
“Our cellar is small in size, but big in the quality of its wines”, simply sums up its president, Gérard Demonte. During the Grenaches du monde competition held this year in New York, the Roc de la Perdiu (2000 vintage) was awarded the double gold medal; the amber Rivesaltes (2017) a gold medal just like the red Côte du Roussillon, cuvée St-Côme and St-Damien, of 2021. “Already in 2022, the Roc de la Perdiu had obtained the gold medal of the same competition in Navarre (Spain). amber won the silver medal”.
The work of a team thrilled by this harvest of medals, Gérard Demonte first of all wishes to put his team in the spotlight: “These 4 gold medals crown the work of a discreet team, headed by cellar master Yves Derungs, a young retiree, who was the “dad” of Roc de la Perdiu, already crowned with a Bacchus in 2000 (for the 1988 vintage)”. The president also stipulates that the winegrowers committed to the high environmental value approach, proud of these awards, will continue their hard work in search of ever more recognition: “For most competitions, there is a minimum production volume which is required; that can sometimes block us, but we have every intention of doing more. To have these medals, it encourages us to do other competitions, it makes us known”.

While the cooperative cellar will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2 years, it is already offering great festivities, in this case a great concert with Nadau, the poet from Béarn whom Gérard Demonte compares to a Gascon version of our late Jordi Barre, just that!
