The death of American Grammy-winning rapper Coolio in September 2022 was due to the effects of fentanyl and other drugs, his manager said, the BBC reported.

Jarez Posey said the musician’s family had been informed of the findings by the Los Angeles County medical examiner.

The singer was found unconscious on the bathroom floor at a friend’s house in Los Angeles six months ago. He was 59 years old.

Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivy Jr., won a Grammy for the 1995 song Gangsta’s Paradise.

The hit, which was later selected for the soundtrack of the film “Dangerous Minds”, became one of the most successful rap songs of all time, helping to bring the genre into the mainstream.

The song continues to be heard to this day, with over one billion views on YouTube.
