That’s it, after Acer and its Predator Z57, Cooler Master has joined the club of brands with a 57-inch screen to their credit with the GP57ZS! Like Acer’s Predator, the brand’s new flagship is certainly also based on a variant of the 57″ panel produced by Samsung Display and that Samsung uses for its own Odyssey Neo G9 57. Therefore, apart from a naturally quite different presentation, the characteristics are very close and even mostly identical. We are therefore still on a VA panel base in 32:2 format with a fairly aggressive 1000R curve, but oh so essential for a monster of this size that will extend over the entire desktop, or even more. The definition is still 7680 x 2160 pixels, you will obviously need a big GPU to power all that. Finally, the backlighting is provided by Mini LED and sufficiently powerful and numerous to guarantee certification DisplayHDR 1000. There are, however, disparities.
Apparently, Samsung is keeping the best of its 57-inch panel, its Odyssey screen benefiting from 2392 Mini LED zones and a refresh rate of 240 Hz, in addition to having DisplayPort 2.1. Conversely, the competing alternatives presented so far, such as the GP57ZShave a slightly reduced number of zones at 2304, a refresh rate limited to 120 Hz and only have DisplayPort 1.4. Also, the GP57ZS seems to only have 8-bit + FRC depth, while Acer and Samsung have 10-bit. There are also some small variations in the percentages of color spaces covered, but nothing too noticeable. Cooler Master can however boast a peak brightness of 1100 nits in HDR, compared to 1000 nits for the other two. The manufacturer explains that it managed to reach this level thanks to its custom radiator integrated into the screen. However, this seems to have been done at the cost of an explosion in consumption, which was already quite high. This type of screen still pumps and heats up quite a bit. Cooler Master announces a maximum of 485 W, while the maximum of the Odyssey Neo G9 57 is 300 W. It’s as if Cooler Master wanted to justify its title at all costs!
How much will this one cost you? Cooler Master didn’t say. Nor did it indicate the launch period. Acer had given a price of €2,399 for its Predator Z57, but it is not currently available anywhere. Samsung’s 57-inch Odyssey sells for €2,099 directly from the brand and can be found for around €1,900 elsewhere. No doubt the price of the GP57ZS will also be in this range, assuming that it is available one day and in our countries.
