Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The selling price of cooking oil has started to fall. This decline coincided with the ban on exports of crude palm oil (CPO) and cooking oil, as well as the disclosure of cases related to these commodities.
The decline in cooking oil prices was at least visible in Indogrosir Tangerang on Sunday (24/4/2022). The price of 1 liter Hemart brand cooking oil was monitored at Rp. 24,700, while the price per carton was Rp. 292,800.
Then, Tropical cooking oil in 2 liter packages costs Rp. 47,900, and Rp. 287,400 per carton. This price is valid April 14 – 30 2022.
Furthermore, Forvita brand cooking oil in 2 liter packaging is priced at Rp. 48,900, while per carton is Rp. 289,900. For the Rose Brand brand, 2 liter packaging is IDR 47,500, while per carton is IDR 285,000.
Secretary General of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) Solihin said it was normal for retailers to carry out promotional programs or price discounts. In fact, he said, promotions can be done every day and are common.
“If you say because of the current conditions, there is an export ban and the price has dropped, not yet,” said Solihin to CNBC Indonesia, Monday (25/4/2022).
He added that the decision to give a price discount is sometimes the result of cooperation between the retailer and the principal owner of the goods. Or, continued Solihin, the store is considering a high stock position.
“Yes (there are many factors underlying the price discount promo program at retail). What is clear is that we have standard margins. For fast moving goods, it is difficult for us to obtain large margins. Especially price sensitive goods such as cooking oil and sugar. I don’t want to shop with us anymore,” he said.
