A third-grade criminology student, Bryan Christopher, 28, has been named a suspect in the mysterious murders of four students in the state of Idaho last month, US police say. Bryan is being held in Pennsylvania, more than 4,020 km from the crime scene (TKP), which is a rented house in Moscow City near the University of Idaho campus.
There, on November 13, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen were found stabbed to death in their beds. Many of them, all in their 20s or 21s, had distinctive self-defense wounds.
A post-mortem examination found that the four may have been asleep when they were attacked. Police said there was no evidence of sexual assault.
For weeks after the deaths of the four victims, family members expressed their frustration with the progress of the investigation.
Kohberger was arrested Friday (12/30) near the city of Scranton in the state of Pennsylvania by state police and FBI agents. He was traced to his parents’ home in Albrightsville, officials told CBS, the BBC’s US partner. He should be extradited to Idaho, he has appeared before a judge and is being held without bail.
Latah District Attorney Bill Thompson said in a news conference that the suspect faced four counts of first-degree murder and robbery.
The suspect is said to be a doctoral candidate or graduate student in criminal justice and criminology at Washington State University. Its campus in Pullman City, Wash., which is also its home city, is a 10-mile drive from Moscow City, Idaho.
“This is a complex and large case,” Moscow police chief James Fry said emotionally.
“These strings of killings have rocked this community and no number of arrests will bring these young schoolgirls back to life,” she told reporters.
