Two weeks ago, convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante (34) escaped from prison. On Wednesday morning, he was arrested, after a persistent police hunt with 500 police constables.

Danelo Cavalcante (34), who has been convicted of premeditated murder, was arrested by the police after escaping from prison in West Chester, Pennsylvania two weeks ago. 500 police constables were involved in the arrest, which took place after a massive search operation. Cavalcante was spotted by a helicopter searching the area for heat signals. Cavalcante, who holds a Brazilian passport, was sentenced to life in prison in August for killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her children in 2021. Show more
– This is a message from the Pennsylvania State Police. The search for Danelo Cavalcante is over. The person is now in police custody, said a message sent to the residents of Pennsylvania from the emergency center.
Cavalcante, convicted of premeditated murder, escaped from the prison in West Chester, an hour’s drive from the big city of Philadelphia, on August 31.
On Wednesday afternoon, the state police in Pennsylvania announced during a press conference that Cavalcante had been arrested, write CNN.
– I want to start by saying thank God that no police officers or civilians were injured, says Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro during the press conference.

Taken by a police dog
A police chase involving 500 constables took part in the arrest, which took place just after eight o’clock local time.
During the press conference, the police inform that they discovered the 34-year-old around one o’clock on Wednesday night with the help of a helicopter that searched for heat signals in the area.
After locating the heat source, tactical police units surrounded the area before entering.
The police spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Police, George Biven, states that the fugitive was not aware that he was surrounded before the police went into action.
Cavalcante tried to escape during the arrest, and his condition is described as “desperate”.
– One of the teams released a police dog after him, and the dog managed to catch him, says Bivens.
Cavalcante suffered minor bite injuries during the arrest.

Pennsylvania State Senator Katie Muth thanks the police for their efforts in apprehending Cavalcante in a Facebook posts Wednesday morning.
– Today, Danelo Cavalcante will be placed behind bars for the rest of his life. I also want to remember the victim, Deborah Brandão. His family has been terrorized again in recent weeks.
Furthermore, she writes that the arrest will not be able to bring Deborah back to her family.
– But today they can at least sleep a little easier in the knowledge that Cavalcante can’t hurt anyone else, she concludes.

Sentenced to life in prison
Cavalcante holds a Brazilian passport and was sentenced to life in prison as recently as August. He is convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her children in 2021. He is also suspected of murder in his home country, Brazil, in 2017.
Only two weeks after the sentence, he managed to escape from a prison in Chester County near Philadelphia in the USA.
An employee at the prison has been fired as a result of the escape.
After Cavalcante escaped from prison, police went out and warned against what they described as an armed and extremely dangerous man.
– We will catch him. It is a matter of time, said police spokesman Bivens after the escape was a fact.
