Convicted lawyer for millionaire fraud to the pension system

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation demonstrated that it irregularly processed pension acknowledgments to 57 teachers, for a value greater than 1,600 million pesos.

Faced with the evidence and arguments presented by the Attorney General’s Office, the Second Criminal Court of the Quibdó Circuit convicted lawyer Heidelger Alexánder López Córdoba as responsible for a millionaire fraud to the pension system.

The investigations showed that this person irregularly processed a pension called ‘grace bonus’ for 57 teachers from Istmina, Nóvita, Tadó and Quibdó (Chocó). In this way, it generated fraud in excess of 1,650 million pesos.

A prosecutor from the Unit for Crimes against the Public Administration of Quibdó demonstrated that, in some cases, the benefited teachers and former teachers did not practice professionally, in other requests their time of service was increased or their workplace was changed.

In this network of corruption, about 70 people would be linked to different procedural stages. Those investigated include teachers, lawyers and several former municipal officials.

For these events, which mostly occurred in 2015, the lawyer López Córdoba was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison, for the crimes of ideological falsehood in a public document aggravated by use, procedural fraud and illicit enrichment.

The ruling established that, additionally, it must pay a fine of 1,697 million pesos. For serious illness ruled by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, the sentenced person will serve the sentence in their place of residence.

The Prosecutor’s Office makes this information public for reasons of general interest.
