One of the three men sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of Sven Prins in Brunssum has been released. The court of appeal in Den Bosch has decided this on appeal.
Sergio K. was previously sentenced by the court in Maastricht to 30 years in prison for the murder of Prince in 2015. He has been imprisoned for six years and will be released tomorrow, in anticipation of the verdict that will be made on 11 November. K. has always denied that he had anything to do with the liquidation. According to his lawyer Mark Nillesen, his client burst into tears the moment he heard from the judges that he was released.
acquittal
“Formally, it is not yet an acquittal, but it will be,” Nillesen says after the hearing tonight 1Limburg. On November 11, the court will also rule in the case of the other two suspects, who will remain in custody.
Prince (30) was shot dead in September 2015 after a chase. A friend was in the car with him. He survived the attack. Prince’s murder may have been drug related, but the motive is unclear.
Sergio K. has always denied that he was there and a co-defendant also stated that it was not him, but someone else who was in the car when Prins was killed.
Nillesen says the court has “errored”. “There is only an interpretation of an undercover agent, but there was no further evidence. No DNA, no witness, no informant,” says the lawyer. “He has now been sent home because the judge says: the time he has served is longer than we intend to impose on him.”
New suspect
Justice again demanded long prison sentences against the three convicted men on appeal at the end of September. The case then took a special turn when someone in the room mentioned the name of another possible suspect: Orhan K.
For the time being, there is also too little evidence for the involvement of Orhan K., writes L1.
