Conviasa announces flight between Venezuela and Nicaragua with a stopover in Havana – 2024-05-02 01:54:08

Conviasa, the Venezuelan flag airline, is promoting the opening of a new commercial route between Caracas and Managua, the capitals of Venezuela and Nicaragua, which will have a stopover in Havana.

This journey would be of interest to all those Cubans who seek to reach Nicaragua, one of the few countries that still do not require visas from citizens of the Island, to begin an irregular journey to the border between Mexico and the United States.

The flight will begin operating from May 5, with two frequencies a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays. According to a statement shared by Conviasa, the cheapest tickets allow only one checked baggage, which cannot exceed 23 kilograms.

At the moment, the airline carries out four other direct flights from Havana to Managua, which run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. In that sense, there would be six weekly flights between these destinations starting on May 5.

Since the Nicaraguan government adopted a visa-free policy for Cuban citizens at the end of 2021, the Conviasa agency, located in the Miramar Business Center in Havana, has seen several long lines of people waiting for to be able to escape the misery that exists in the Greater Antilles.

Currently, the company’s web portal does not yet have the details of these flights online, so there is no estimated price for the tickets. For now, the only thing that is known is that the flights will be carried out aboard Embraer 190 aircraft, which have a capacity for 114 passengers.

Because the Nicaraguan migration route offered a faster and safer option compared to starting a trip from South America, flights to that country became very popular.

Since then, some 400,000 Cubans have used this route to reach the United States after selling their homes and all their belongings in order to pay the excessive prices that several of these airlines began to charge in order to take advantage of the market.

As a consequence, the United States government has attempted to stop these flights used to encourage illegal migration, For which I have issued sanctions against executives and owners of charter airlines that facilitate these trips..

The actions of the Biden administration seem to have had an effect, as companies such as Air Century and Sky High, from the Dominican Republic, as well as Viva Aerobús and Magnicharteres, from Mexico, have withdrawn from this market, however, Conviasa and Aruba Airlines continue operating these routes despite the sanctions.
