NAfter around ten years, the last light points in Langschlag were replaced with energy-saving lamps in August.
The Langschläger road network is now entirely illuminated with LEDs. The market town of Langschlag began converting its street lighting to LED about ten years ago and was now able to complete this extensive project in 2023.
According to energy accounting for the last three years, the average total electricity consumption is around 260,000 kWh, with around a quarter being caused by street lighting. “Before the LED conversion began, this proportion was significantly higher and the overall savings in street lighting will be in the range of up to 70%,” explains Mayor Andreas Maringer. All street lighting now has a time-controlled soft-close system. In times of high energy costs, the community is happy that investments were made early on and that the whole thing is worthwhile.
In these ten years, 450 light points were replaced and around 350,000 euros were invested. The LED conversion was supported by the state of Lower Austria through allocations for energy-saving communities (light point funding) and some funds from the federal government’s municipal investment program (KIP) were also used. Mayor Maringer and Deputy Mayor Walter Bröderbauer mention that further LED conversions are planned for the future in all municipal buildings. These are already making progress in the kindergarten and school, with the sports hall lighting currently being changed. The expansion of photovoltaics and the conversion of the last two oil heating systems to alternative heating systems are also important future projects. For all projects it is important to collect every funding euro for Langschlag.
