Walter Baier presents a presentation of Marxism: starting from the communist idea of common property, which dates back to antiquity, through classical German philosophy and English political economy, the central concepts of the thought of Karl Marx and his heirs are presented intellectuals.
In addition to classical literature, Marx, Engels, Lenin, Luxemburg, Gramsci and Bauer, Baier takes up the controversies between Marxists on the evaluation of the Russian revolution, fascism and Stalinism. The conclusion is formed by the attempts of neo-Marxist authors to understand the global political situation after the collapse of authoritarian socialism in Europe in order to enable a new political practice of emancipation. Ecosocialism is of particular importance. In this context, liberation theology, which is reflected in the pontificate of Pope Francis, is also examined from a Marxist point of view.
