Converge and Chelsea Wolfe have announced a new collaborative album titled Bloodmoon: I, which will arrive on November 19. They also shared the music video for the song “Blood Moon“.
The collaborative effort also features Wolfe’s music writing partner, Ben Chisholm, and Stephen Brodsky from Cave In. The star-studded project grew out of a desire to “do something grander than the typical four-piece Converge music“According to vocalist Jacob Bannon.
“Blood Moon”Of more than eight minutes shows the sheer ambition of collaboration. The haunting cinematic arrangement proceeds at a fatal pace, with haunting vocal passages by Bannon and Wolfe. It builds to a massive sonic climax of toughness, anchored by metallic explosions of Converge.
“The project stretched my voice in new waysWolfe said through a press release. “It’s so different from what I normally sing that I was able to open up and be vulnerable with my voice.“.
Bannon added: “Our dynamics are pushing and pulling in all different directions on this record, and I find that creatively rewarding.“.
The origins of the musical association date back to the 2016 Roadburn festival. The Dutch festival saw an early version of the collaboration, with material from Converge renovated seven-piece under the nickname of Blood Moon.
The artists’ busy schedules would not be cleared up again until 2019, when they reunited to record. The sessions were held in the God City Studio of the guitarist of Converge Kurt Ballou in Salem, Massachusetts (with Ballou as producer), until the pandemic forced the record to be finished remotely.
“I feel like everyone had music in mind and wanted to do their best for the song.Brodsky noted.
