A video clip of a female bear in a zoo in China sparked controversy about the possibility of falsification, and the disguise of a person in the form of a bear who was making movements similar to those performed by humans.
The video clip, which was filmed at the Hanzhou Zoo in China, shows the bear Angela standing in a human-like manner.
In an interview with the British newspaper “The Mirror”, Dr. Wong Siu Tee, a Malaysian wildlife biologist who specializes in sun bears, said, “The bear Angela is not a man or a person in a costume.”
“There is no doubt that it is a sun bear. People know very little about this species of bear,” Siu Tee added.
For her part, animal expert Dr. Ashley Marshall confirmed that the animal is “definitely a real bear,” explaining that “the folds on its back, which are supposed to be evidence of inappropriate clothing, help protect the bear from predators, as looseness allows the bear to escape, and fight if caught.”
In turn, the Hanzhou Zoo said that the difference between the bear Angela is due to its species, which many people do not see.
Sun bears are distinguished by their large, hairless paws that help them climb, and reach a length of 1.3 meters, which is shorter than other types of bears.
