Controversy Surrounding the Relocation of General Hong Beom-do’s Bust: A Historical Perspective

[앵커]

Last week, the controversy surrounding the relocation of General Hong Beom-do’s bust was hot.

The Military Academy eventually made the decision to ‘relocate’, and the public opinion against it is also strong.

Today (the 3rd), I will invite one of the highest academic authorities who have studied General Hong Beom-do to sort out this problem.

Ban Byeong-ryul, a historian and emeritus professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, came out.

welcome.

It seems that no one knows who General Hong Beom-do is and what achievements he made as an independence fighter.

There has been a lot of talk over the past few days, so I will omit the explanation of that part, and I will go straight to the point.

First of all, how should we look at the history of the ‘Soviet Communist Party’?

[답변]

I didn’t join as a communist or as a Bolshevik.

In 1927, since I entered pension life from 29, there are such personal problems.

There are problems in life, and at the time, General Hong Beom-do said that the collective farm fortress was called kohlhos, where he took his independence army subordinates, and now with the Soviet authorities, various administrative issues, land grants, and agricultural tools needed for farming. Because of these various administrative problems (now), as we often say, for the sake of the revolution, for the sake of the socialist revolution, underground operations like the avant-garde, publicity or propaganda of socialism, or such general vanguard parties It’s different.

(Prior to that) Independence forces in Manchuria fought the Battle of Cheongsan-ri and now moved (to Russia) avoiding any kind of pursuit and subjugation by the Japanese army, and independence forces active in the Maritime Province also moved to Japan, which was gaining power in the Maritime Province. It’s a dispatched army, usually by receiving something (attack) from the Japanese army and avoiding it, now independence forces from Manchuria and Maritime Provinces have gathered in Free City, which is a region of the Far East Republic that can be called a safe zone.

Another point of contention was the ‘Free City Disaster’ that occurred in 1921.

At the time, the Ministry of National Defense explained to the effect that General Hong was involved in the process of the independence army losing their lives. How do you view it?

[답변]

Since this person was from Gando, he could not be involved in this decision process, the decision process of military integration, and he was not in such a position, and furthermore, there was no room for him to be involved in this part of disarmament, which is a particularly extreme method. .

And this is usually what we now call a fratricidal war, and now we express the catastrophe in free city.

Moreover, it is now in some memoirs, but now, after hearing the news of the tragedy that General Hong and the officers were disarmed around Free City, the officers and the officers now wept while hitting the ground in the pine field.

[앵커]

“I participated in the battles of Bongo-dong and Cheongsan-ri as ‘partisans'”, the Ministry of National Defense highlighted this part as well. What kind of concept was ‘partisan’ at this time?

[답변]

That part is now a matter of very basic terminology, but I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding.

Partisan is now Partisan in English and now Partizan in Russian, which means militia.

Volunteer army, voluntary irregular army, righteous army.

This is why General Hong Beom-do is in Partisan, but this person now has the questionnaire we know well that he uses when entering Russia.

When I looked at the questionnaire, I was asked what my job was, and I was told that I was a volunteer soldier.

But if you look at the righteous army, it says Partizan in Russian next to the translation.

Even the military veterans who agreed to the bust relocation had no disagreements about General Hong’s achievements in the independence movement.

We interviewed by phone for a few minutes, and we heard the reason why the bust should be moved while respecting him as a great man.

Class professor, how did you hear?

[답변]

(So) as a true historian, as a historian, I feel quite self-defeating.

I feel that this (letting people know about General Hong) was lacking a lot…

I wish I had handled it a little more carefully.

In this interpretation of history, we have to do this while evaluating and interpreting the international situation at the time and some of the various personal circumstances of this part from various angles. Connect and have these problems.

Especially in the case of the Koreans, we are in a state of rage right now, a state of rage…

What it means is that General Hong Beom-do, who identified with them and served as their spiritual supporter, was scorned like this in Korea, and that some of their selves were belittled, humiliated, and ignored. .

Even if this person joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, it is not at all in the process of carrying out the policy of the Soviet administrative Soviet government or the Soviet Communist Party holding any position.

I just lived like normal Goryeo people.

Now that he has a 90-ruble pension, he is now short of it, so he works as a security guard at a hospital for about three months. Not only did he not receive any preferential treatment from the Soviet Union or the Soviet government in the Goryeoin society, his life itself was quite difficult.

After the righteous army struggle in 1895, haven’t all of their families, who really devoted themselves to the people and the country, been sacrificed?

Both his wife and his two sons were sacrificed during the independence movement, but during the righteous army struggle…

So, this person’s life itself, and even in his later years, was not lived for his personal prosperity or wealth.

[앵커]

I’ll listen until here.

Professor Class, thank you for your detailed words today.
