Controversy Surrounding Tatyana Lioznova’s “Three Poplars on Plyushchikha” Sparks Public Outcry

The public hated the director for this.

The painting “Three Poplars on Plyushchikha” tells about a short meeting that turned two lives upside down. The film was directed by Tatyana Lioznova, who gave the public “Carnival” and “Seventeen Moments of Spring.” The 1968 drama was enthusiastically received by both viewers and critics. True, one moment caused inevitable disappointment among fans of the director’s work.

The role of Nyura, a pretty village woman who came to the capital to sell homemade ham, was played by Tatyana Doronina. Her partner on the set was the handsome Oleg Efremov, who played Sasha. One day the heroes found themselves in the same car – and a spark ran between them. The audience expected that the couple would be together at the end, but Lioznova did not slip the public a sweet pill of lies.

Soviet women went to the cinema several times, hoping that Nyura would still leave her unloved husband for Sasha, but alas, the village beauty could not do otherwise. The director was sent packs of letters demanding that he reshoot the ending, but Tatyana Mikhailovna was adamant.
