House of Representatives or DPR United States of America (US) condemned Rashida Tlaibthe only hereditary member of the US Congress Palestineregarding his critical comments regarding the war raging between Israel and Hamas in Gaza Strip.
As reported Al JazeeraTuesday (8/11/2023), the majority of members of the US House of Representatives supported a resolution condemning Tlaib, a member of the US House of Representatives from the Democratic Party and representing the state of Michigan for three terms, in a vote held on Tuesday (7/11) evening local time .
A total of 234 voted in favor of censuring Tlaib, with another 188 voting against. There are four Republican members of the US House of Representatives who refused to censure Tlaib. Meanwhile, three members of the US DPR from the Democratic Party and one other member from the Republican Party chose to abstain.
Meanwhile, 22 members of the US House of Representatives from the Democratic Party, who are Tlaib’s party colleagues, joined the majority of members from the Republican Party in supporting the resolution.
The resolution proposed by Republican member of the US House of Representatives, Rich McCormick, who represents Georgia, accused Tlaib of ‘promoting a false narrative about the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and calling for the destruction of the state of Israel’.
This censure by the majority of members of the US House of Representatives is a form of punishment for Tlaib, and is one step below expulsion. A similar measure proposed by other Republican members of the US House of Representatives last week failed after the Democratic Party succeeded in blocking it.
Tlaib repeatedly condemned the attack Hamas to Israel on October 7, which reportedly killed 1,400 people. But he also criticized US support for Israel and Israel’s relentless assault on the Gaza Strip, which has reportedly killed more than 10,000 people over the past month.
Ahead of the vote held by the US House of Representatives, Tlaib defended her position by saying she “will not be silenced” and will not allow her words to be distorted.
