①Why is there talk of unfair nominations?
On the 22nd, People Power Party Nomination Management Committee Chairman Jeong Young-hwan said, “(Chairman Han) may have overstepped the procedure.” Previously, at the Seoul Metropolitan Party’s New Year’s greetings meeting held in the Mapo-eul district of Seoul on the 17th, Chairman Han raised non-committee member Kim to the podium and introduced him as a candidate to run against Chung Cheong-rae, an incumbent member of the Democratic Party of Korea in the Mapo-eul district. The day before, on the 16th, at the Incheon City Party New Year’s greetings meeting held in Gyeyang, Incheon, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong was introduced as a candidate for Gyeyang, the constituency of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myeong. In both regions, there was an existing party chairman, and prospective candidates who were preparing to run in the region protested, saying, “Han Dong-hoon’s style of putting it down.” This was right after the People Power Party announced the ‘system nomination’ plan, so it looked as if the leadership was making a strategic nomination in just one day.
The Mission Committee also believes that there is a problem in this area. Chairman Han, who also serves as the chairman of the party’s talent recruitment committee, should only play the role of ‘recruiting talent’ and should not even mention running for a specific region. Chairman Jeong said, “It is very welcome that Chairman Han brings in many good talents as the chairman of the talent recruitment committee,” and added, “However, when they apply for nomination, the diplomatic committee will (examine) them fairly.”
②Is Kim Kyung-yul not running in the primary?
Chairman Han’s position is that he will follow procedures such as primary elections. Secretary-General Jang Dong-hyuk said in a radio broadcast, “We introduced non-committee member Kim and former Minister Won at the event venue out of respect for their intention to run in difficult places.” “Whether we do this or another method of nomination, we will proceed fairly,” he said.

A party official said, “There is definitely a competitor, but Chairman Han should have been somewhat careful with his expressions,” and added, “Mapo-eul is close to rough terrain, so it is far from ‘Sacheon’, which puts its people in sunny places.”
