The news of the opening of the burial of the former Miss Lebanon’s bridesmaid, Michelle Hajal, who died after a long struggle with cancer in 2019, has topped newspaper headlines, news sites, and social media in Lebanon, since the beginning of this week.
Last Saturday, the name of the late Michelle Hajal came to the fore once again, when the decision was taken to open her grave after Lebanese church authorities responded to a request insisted by the late sister, Paula Hajal.
Story details
For her part, Paula Hajal refused to comment to “Sky News Arabia” about the case before obtaining prior permission to speak to any media outlet by the bishop of the Greek Orthodox parish in Mount Lebanon Governorate, and the investigations ended with the story.
Paula Hajal only told Sky News Arabia: “We are tired, but we are satisfied with what was published on the page bearing the name of my sister Michelle on Facebook, which I personally manage.”
Confusion in the street
The event sparked controversy in Lebanon, especially among the pioneers of social networking sites and on the pages of the media, including those who did not believe “that the grave was opened and that the Orthodox Church does not allow this.
Why did they ask to open the grave?
- The grave was opened after several testimonies that I received from outside Lebanon, the first of which was from a young woman who called her from Palestine. Michelle saw in a dream “a snake with hair on her head and saying, ‘Open my grave,'” according to Michelle’s Facebook page.
- The dream was repeated with a Lebanese woman who was ill with cancer, so I renewed my contact with the diocese about opening the grave until they agreed.
- Paula said on the page: “The priest agreed to open the burial, accompanied by one of his guards, called Joseph, and we opened the grave on Saturday morning in the presence of two priests, and the scene was my sister’s face with hair in her eyebrows and on her head, and it smelled sweet.”
- The post, which is a video of Michelle’s sister speaking to a local media, added: “The grave was opened to reveal, according to what was published by local media, that Michelle’s face is still in its condition, soft to the touch, 4 years after her departure, while her hair covers half of her face and her eyebrows are visible. That she was buried without hair and without eyebrows.
