Controversy Surrounding New Russian 100 Ruble Banknote Design

A new 100 ruble banknote has entered Russian circulation, on which the regions of the 4 occupied regions of Ukraine are not included in the Russian Federation.

A new scandal has erupted in Russia related to the design of a new 100-ruble banknote. Russian Z-patriots are outraged that on the reverse side of the bill there is a map of the Russian Federation without the occupied Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine. Photos of the banknote appeared on the Internet the day before and caused discontent among some Russians.

Russian journalists turned to the Central Bank for comment, which explained this by saying that the design of the new banknote was developed back in 2021, even before the invasion of Ukraine by the occupying army of the Russian Federation, and at the moment there are no plans to change it.

The banknotes appeared in circulation in 2023.

Z-bloggers and Russian media accuse the Central Bank of “lack of patriotism.” But the Russians took Crimea for themselves, still considering the occupied peninsula theirs.

Let us remind you that this is not the first scandal related to the design of Russian rubles. Earlier, in mid-October, the new 1,000-ruble banknotes depicted the Palace Church without crosses on the territory of the Kremlin in Kazan. There was a Muslim crescent on the nearby mosque.

The propaganda publication Ridovka stated that in front of the Russians is happening “destruction of Russian meanings.”
