The concert was planned to be held in October in the Prague Municipal Building – an “art deco” house owned by the city.
However, the vice-mayor of Prague suggested canceling the concert after talks with the Ukrainian embassy.
Netrebko is included in Ukraine’s sanctions list, but previously she was accused of actively supporting Putin’s regime.
As the Czech media remind, the singer has lived in Austria for several years, but participated in Putin’s pre-election events, as well as photographed with the pro-Russian militants of Eastern Ukraine.
Netrebko’s performances in Western countries are often accompanied by street protests by supporters of Ukraine. Several concerts have been canceled due to protests. Thus, in February, Netrebko did not perform in Taiwan, but in the summer of 2022 – in Stuttgart, Germany.
