A salary of BGN 7,500 per month for the mayor of Kyustendil, Eng. Ognyan Atanasov, was voted by the municipal councilors. This is 80% of a minister’s basic monthly salary and has caused numerous comments in the city that it is excessive.
The proposal was supported by 25 of the municipal councilors. Four voted “against”, and 8 abstained. There were no debates or disputes, despite expectations.
From GERB-SDS, whose group is the largest – 11 councilors, were categorically “against”, but it turned out that they did not vote enbloc.
At the previous meeting, it was decided that the chairman of the Municipal Council should receive 90% of the remuneration of the Mayor of the Municipality. The councilors also voted on the proposal for their own remuneration. It is for 70% of the average gross salary in the municipal administration for the relevant month and at the current stage it will be around BGN 800.
