The Van den Ham couple have converted their garden house into a luxurious guest house that lacks nothing. There is a jacuzzi on the veranda and you can take a dip in the swimming pool. However, booking is not possible, because the accommodation is ‘temporarily closed’ after complaints from the neighbourhood.
The couple started their b&b in the spring, but the two have stopped since June 26. This happened after complaints from the neighbourhood, but also after their neighbor found out that they do not have an environmental permit; he therefore sounded the alarm at the municipality.
The neighbors complain about noise, for example, the guests would shout too much in the swimming pool. The smoke from the wood stove is also a problem and the tourists are responsible for rubbish found in the neighborhood. In short, the neighbors think that a bed & breakfast does not belong in a residential area. Edith and Bas contradict that, according to them, these types of accommodations are very often located in a residential area.
Neighborhood mediation
The owners also deny that noise from guests comes from their garden. If anything can be heard, it is their own children, they say. The couple does understand that they should have informed their neighbors in advance and that they should have waited to rent out until the permit was finalized.
Whether they will get that permit remains to be seen. The decision period has recently been extended and recently there was a meeting in the town hall. There is currently a neighborhood mediation.
