Elon Musk likes to stir up controversy all the time, from buying the company first, to laying off employees and recently putting the shiny “X” logo atop his San Francisco headquarters building, and last week, Twitter officially became X when the rebrand was completed across Android, iPhone and the web.
The platform now uses a “dark mode.” As part of this rebranding, Musk also installed a giant, glowing, pulsating “X” at the top of the San Francisco headquarters building, where Elon Musk says he plans to keep his company.
“Many have offered rich incentives for X to move its headquarters out of San Francisco,” Musk said in the post.
“We won’t do that, you only know who your true friends are when the chips are down, San Francisco, beautiful San Francisco, even though others abandon you, we will always be your friend,” Musk added, as he removed the “Twitter” sign from the building.
However, city officials and some residents are unhappy with the new logo, with many people taking to the X to post that the new X logo is annoying due to its overlapping brightness, and the San Francisco Building Inspection Department (BID) has reportedly said it is investigating the structure because it may violate rules. The permit, according to the posts on the X, flashes the logo for two nights.
According to a report by Reuters news agency, a BID inspector said in a written report that company representatives twice denied access to the roof to BID officials seeking to inspect the logo, and the inspector also noted that a representative said the sign was temporary.
