SPIŠSKÁ NOVÁ VES – Czech hockey goalie Patrik Bartošák will not play for Spišská Nová Ves after all.

After November’s premature end in Hradec Králové last week, the 30-year-old goalkeeper agreed to cooperate with the leading team of the Slovak extra league, but in the end he did not catch a single match for the second team of the competition. In today’s statement on the website, the club announced that Bartošák refused to undergo an entrance health examination, which was one of the conditions of cooperation.

“We were aware that the eventual engagement (of Bartošák) would cause a wave of criticism. However, in the club in recent years, we have given a similar chance to other players, and in the final accounting, our decision turned out to be the right one. Therefore, in this case too, we believed in our positive experiences, respectively a human approach that has proven itself and worked,” said general manager Richard Rapáč.

According to him, the representatives of Spišská Nová Ves met with Bartošák before the agreement on cooperation until the end of the season and had information about his problems during previous engagements.

The spies want to give him a helping hand

A participant in the 2019 World Championships and a member of the national team at the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Games ended up in Hradec Králové due to a serious breach of contractual obligations and repeated unexcused absences. In the past, he also ended up in Třinec prematurely, when the Ocelari terminated his contract due to a violation of his lifestyle. In the 2019/20 season, he solved mental problems with alcohol.

“We are aware that there are events in the player’s past that are rightly viewed critically. But despite this, we believed that based on our successful work with players with various problems off the ice, we believed that we would also be able to help Patrik.” pointed out Rapáč. For example, last season in Spišská Nová Ves, the Slovak striker Martin Réway, who also solved a number of non-sporting problems during his career, worked successfully.

“We will not turn our backs on him, but we are willing to give him a helping hand, because his story is not unique in the sports world and we want to be an example that people, not just professional athletes, need to be helped when they need it the most.” added Richard Rapáč.

The agreement with Bartošák was stopped by failure to pass a medical examination. “She was one of the basic points of the contract. We have no choice but to suspend the contract,” added Rapáč, saying that the Slovak club is willing to lend a helping hand to the native of Kopřivnica.
