Viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp will no longer share linear viewing figures from the previous day via Instagram. There may still be a sanction from the National Media Research (NMO), which shares the figures weekly.
Since last Tuesday, the linear viewing figures of the previous day are no longer published online, as was the case for years. The viewing figures are now only published after six days.
According to the NMO, the new method should provide a “more complete picture of viewing behavior”. With the new method, the NMO also counts delayed viewing, which is happening more and more, in the figures.
Experts and journalists have criticized this new method. Nijkamp shared Monday’s linear figures on Instagram on Tuesday. She wanted to show that the new method is old-fashioned and impractical in her view.
She reports on Wednesday that sharing the viewing figures was a one-off action. “I’m sticking with this, my point has been made,” says the former SBS6 channel boss. “I was about the point that it is untenable in this day and age to share less information instead of more information, while that information is in the hands of many people.”

‘This situation is also new to us’
Patricia Sonius, director of research at the NMO, announced on Wednesday that there was contact on Tuesday with all parties who do receive the viewing figures on a daily basis, but who are not allowed to publish in its entirety.
“We have jointly agreed on a number of rules for this new system,” says Sonius. “It is the intention that all parties adhere to it.”
The commitment not to break those rules is not optional, emphasizes Sonius. “The board must determine whether there will be a sanction and if so, which sanction. This situation is new to us.”
The NMO would like to talk to Nijkamp about her statements. Nijkamp confirms that the organization has invited her for an interview.
