Controversy Surrounding Alabbar’s Meeting with Lukashenko and Kadyrov: Investor’s Response and Concerns from Latvian Officials

Alabbar met not only with Lukashenko, but also with the dictator of Chechnya, which is part of the Russian Federation, Ramzan Kadyrov. In the Chechen media there is a video where the two have a friendly chat in 2021 in Abu Dhabi.

“Riga Port City” answers about Alabbar’s meeting with dictators: “In any face-to-face talks, Mr. Alabbar has always been against any aggression. He follows the UAE government’s policy, respects and abides by the laws of the country where he makes his private investments.

Concerns about the investor’s relations with the aggressive neighboring countries are expressed by several members of the Riga City Council from the “Progressive” faction.

Until recently, former mayor Mārtiņš Staķis says that he also supported the “Riga Port City” project, but the investor attracted now surprised him.

“I myself was present a year ago in France, when there was an exhibition about this project, as he was presented. Another question – why was this investor chosen?
