Controversy Over Unauthorized Vaccination at Eastern City School: Regional Agency Responds

Eastern City. Regional Agency.

At Basic School No. 823 and Colegio Nacional “Soldado Paraguayo” some parents of students were angry because their children were supposedly vaccinated without their authorization, in addition to claiming that they were not notified. An immunization day that was scheduled for the afternoon of September 13 did not take place due to the annoyance of these people.

They went to make their complaint to the Family Health Unit 1 of the Don Bosco neighborhood, in the afternoon, after the immunization carried out in the morning shift and then they went to the school institution to continue their complaints, according to data collected from the personnel of health and some teachers.

Mr. Sergio Cetrini, regional head of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), told La Nación/Nación Media that they have been complying with the regular immunization program, but what happened at the aforementioned school is just one more in the series of situations. similar ones they have in educational institutions. He said that there are schools where they are prohibited from attending and maintained that they will insist on the immunization program because that is the objective.

In the case of the Colegio Soldado Paraguayo, he reported that as in the other institutions, they notified in advance about the planned agenda and, he clarified, that the immunization work in school premises is carried out through joint work between Education and Public Health.

He added that on the day the problem occurred, in the morning they administered vaccines against HPV (Human Papillomavirus), APDD (Whooping Cough) and Influenza to children from 9 to 14 years old, while the teaching staff collaborated with student registration. In the afternoon, a group made the claim both at the USF and at the school, according to the head of the PAI, and as a result, immunization was suspended at the aforementioned school site.

“We will return to the place, we will see if any phones were cut off, but we will insist on the talks and at the same time respond to all concerns,” said Cetrini. He also mentioned that it is a very big fight that is being carried out to confront misinformation and low coverage.

“We try to apply different strategies to reach the largest number, but we always encounter problems and we are forced to review everything again and insist on informative talks,” added the head of the PAI.
