More than 1,000 fines, recorded in the territory of Ventimiglia, in Italy, have just arrived in two villages in the Roya valley, in the Alpes-Maritimes. A situation which outrages the inhabitants, because for some, the note s amounts to several thousand euros. A TF1 team went to the site.
It has become the nightmare of motorists who use the Roya valley (Alpes-Maritimes) on a daily basis. A radar without flash, located on the Italian side and installed last May. The problem is that French drivers who have committed speeding violations barely receive the fines. Like Chantal Quelier, interviewed in the TF1 report at the top of this article. In front of the camera, this retiree brandishes the fine she received on December 6. Except that the offense dates from July 24. “We received it in five months,” she laments.
We do not contest the offense. The offense is there, we must resolve it. What bothers us are the deadlines.

In question, the subcontracting of verbalization to foreign companies and administrative delays. As a result, three months of fines arrived in a few days. Some motorists even received dozens of fines at once, like Marie Bonnet, a nurse in Tende. “We are not contesting the offense. The offense is there, we must resolve it. What bothers us is the deadlines. Several people find themselves with sums to pay due to the accumulation of fines. Offenses which date from a year to five months. And with large sums to be paid”she confides.
Up to 1,500 euros in cumulative PV, for example, for a single driver. To see things more clearly, Chantal is trying to list all the fines received by the inhabitants of the valley and to bring together dissatisfied motorists through a Facebook group. “We are in the process of setting up an association which will allow us to defend ourselves. We have also called on an Italian lawyer”she says.
