Controversy over Proposed Merger and Single Management of Corte and Bastia Hospitals in Corsica

In a document sent to Corse Net Infos by the Users’ Commission, the agenda for the next meeting on July 6 in Bastia includes the establishment of a single management between the hospitals of Corte and Bastia. . It also mentions the transfer of activities from Tattone to the Corte site. A transfer that seems to have already taken place since the agenda specifies that an inventory of the activity project will be made on this occasion.

According to our information, the merger of the two hospitals and the creation of a single management seems to be accepted by everyone today. From personnel to politicians, we welcome such a project. A voice however rises to say no, that of doctor Pierre Ghionga, general practitioner installed in Corte.
Doctor Xavier Poli, chairman of the supervisory board of CH Corte-Tattone, and mayor of Corte remained unreachable this Sunday afternoon. It is therefore impossible to know the real reasons for this probable merger.

But for Pierre Ghionga, it is clear that it is only ” profitability. A false problem in my opinion. We have seen, for example, that when we wanted to create large regions on the Continent, the opposite happened. And a report by the Court of Auditors clearly shows that the expected profitability has on the contrary caused many deficits “. And doctor Ghionga to insist on the fact that instead of merging, Corte should have worked on the construction of a large hospital for the center of Corsica with the integration of Tattone, since his move is recorded. Given that Bastia is going to build its new hospital for several hundred thousand euros, I think this will reduce the sails for our city. The investment for the creation of a second hospital in Corte will be much lower if there is indeed a single management ».

The other point that makes Dr. Ghionga jump concerns the installation of an MRI in Corte. ” This merger will not allow us to achieve our objective on this subject, because the sole management will oppose Corte having an MRI. Furthermore, I campaign for the CH of Corte, in collaboration with the University of Corsica, to manufacture the radioactive product essential for pet-scans. And there too, in the event of a single management, it is certain that Bastia will refuse us this project. ».
Finally, to explain his disagreement with the merger project, Pierre Ghionga emphasizes the creation of a CHU, viable thanks to the establishment of a hospital grouping of territories. ” This GHT would bring together all the island hospitals, knowing that each hospital center would retain its autonomy. However, if there is a merger between Corte and Bastia, we would totally lose our autonomy. This project, if carried out, would be to the detriment of Corte and its population, but also of the population of the micro-region “, he said.

The relocation of Tattone’s activities to Corte is not yet scheduled. But we know that we are considering the construction of a second hospital at the southern exit of Corte, specializing in gerontology to accommodate Tattone patients. It is, in fact, on the site where the third campus of the University of Corsica was to be built that this structure would see the light of day. The University having validated its third campus in the old town, between the Palazzu Naziunale, the House of the Nuns and the Padua barracks.
A case to follow.
