In front of many large shops, both in Lublin and in other cities or towns, you can easily find them small stalls where farmers sell their products. Sometimes they are, for example, only strawberries, while in other places the assortment is a bit wider and includes several or a dozen types of fruit, as well as vegetables.
It is similar in the area of the Lidl market at ul. Willowa in Lublin. Mrs. Wiola has been running the stand there for several years. As she emphasizes, it does not constitute any competition for the nearby store, as it has opted for a slightly different type of goods. It is about high quality and, above all, the best possible freshness of the offered products. This, in turn, means that they are more expensive than those on Lidl shelves. At the same time, he stipulates that this does not mean that this store has poor quality fruit or vegetables.
Her however, the stand has become a thorn in the side for the store’s management for some time. Initially, the police and municipal guards were sent to it. However, due to the fact that the stall is located on a neighboring plot, for which he pays rent, and also has a registered business activity, inspections by the services did not bring any results. The woman adds that the management of the store repeatedly ordered her to leave the place, and there were also threats.
“I have been trading here for years. I have a group of regular customers. You can say that we have made our own brand. What’s more, I know that there were already many applicants for this place. However, I pay rent for this piece of land, so I do everything legally. However, what has been happening here lately is beyond human imagination. Even customers are outraged by the activity of the store, which as a trading giant decided to fight with a local farmer, and more precisely his small stand – Mrs. Will tells us.
Last Tuesday, on the border of the shop parking lot, and right in front of the stand, tall concrete pots were placed. As explained “as part of the development of land belonging to Lidl”. However, according to the woman, all this in order to prevent customers from reaching her stand. People who buy fruit or vegetables from a farmer see the whole situation in a similar way.
“Honestly, I find it a bit embarrassing. After all, it is outside Lidl’s premises. In addition, like me, I rarely buy such products in supermarkets. I would say that this stall is a competition for the market, not for the store. I personally stock up here and at the bazaar. Not without significance is also the huge disproportion as to the amount of goods sold. In Lidl, they probably sell from a few to a dozen pallets of goods every day, and here a few, maybe a dozen or so crates – one of the customers of the stand tells us.
In turn, the Lidl company explains that the activity of women took place partly on the green belt belonging to the store. This resulted in the destruction of the grass there and the appearance of the so-called trampled. For aesthetic reasons, it was decided to refresh the green belt by e.g. planting new grass. This, in turn, resulted in additional costs. Currently, consultations are also underway regarding the selection of plants to be planted in pots.
– Our goal is to make shopping in Lidl Polska stores comfortable for our customers. For this purpose, we provide customers with large car parks, and we also take care of the green areas around Lidl facilities – explains Aleksandra Robaszkiewicz from Lidl Polska.
The owner of the stall does not deny that initially part of it was located on a shop plot. However, as he emphasizes, everything resulted from ignorance. And exactly, was to be misled as to the course of the border. At the same time, she points out that immediately after drawing her attention to it, the stall was moved to the right place.
Currently, the access to the farmer’s stall leads from the nearby pavement. Customers have to squeeze past the placed pots, but as the woman points out, she has their support in the whole matter, which makes her very happy.
