Egyptian circles did not calm down after they were preoccupied with the image of a hand holding a 50 Egyptian pound banknote bearing a drawing of a Pharaonic statue.
Egyptians shared on social media the image, which its publishers said showed a new 50-pound banknote (about $1.6) that was put into circulation in Egypt by the authorities.
Comments also poured in between those who support and reject the design.
While the voices rose and the uproar increased, the Central Bank broke its silence, as sources there denied to local media that any similar paper had been issued.
The source stated, “The Central Bank has not yet announced the offering of any new currencies after offering 10 pounds more than a year ago, and 20 pounds a few months ago.”
In light of these developments, it was necessary to conduct an inspection through the Yandex engine, which revealed that the image belongs to a report published on the information auditing platform “Dah Jad” in 2018.
He also indicated that its source was a Facebook page via a post dated December 13, 2016.
The page bears the name of the Egyptian Coin Design Challenge, and invites designers to participate with their work, so that all the allegations are proven to be incorrect.
It is noteworthy that the false image received dozens of shares across platforms until its truth became clear.
