These days we are witnessing a heated debate over a song that will represent us in Eurovision, whose title is “Zorra” and performed by Nebulosa, after having won at the Benidorm Fest 2024.
It is true, and we have been verifying this every day, that the meaning of a word is not the same depending on whether it refers to a man or a woman. We have clear examples: slut, prostitute; fox, sagacious, clever; so-and-so, one whose name is unknown; whore, with a totally derogatory use; public man, who holds a position; public woman, who practices prostitution; great, something very good or fun; It’s a pain, something very boring… And so we could continue with countless words.
But returning to the topic at hand, I think that the objective of the song has been achieved: it went viral, it is playing and everyone already knows it. That part, the marketing and advertising, is perfectly done.
Another very different thing is what this song can contribute to the group of women, especially the very young ones. Personally, and despite what we read in some places, I think that it is not doing feminism any favors.
In fact, I think quite the opposite. It is vulgar, ordinary and represents an idea of women long gone. Old and stale. Can anyone seriously believe today that because you go out alone, they call you a “bitch”? Why am I having fun? If I extend the fun and it’s daylight, am I even more of a “slut”?
Please! We have been going out alone for many years, we have fun and no! We don’t feel “slutty” at all. I remember when we came back in the morning from having fun, and we ran into a neighbor, we used to comment that we were going to or coming from the first masses. And that was a long time ago…
Please don’t try to confuse us. Fortunately, things and mentalities have long since changed. Although it must also be said, and it is fair to do so, thanks to the fight of many women for equality, when no one talked about it, much less considered it a right.
If the goal of the song was to confuse us and become famous, that’s fine. But don’t let them tell us that this is a protest song, because demands are such when they are adjusted to reality, not to a certain idea that was more real decades ago than now, but that someone thought was good to write a catchy song. with a striking title.
