The deputy prime minister and minister Matteo Salvini learned “with great amazement” of the agreement between Rai, Rai Pubblicità and Trenitalia “for the promotion of the 74th Sanremo festival and the Frecciarossa railway service respectively”. Thus MIT sources, highlighting that, “given the commercial freedom to stipulate contracts, an agreement that has totally bypassed the Ministry despite the implications on rail circulation and the different treatment compared to other travelers raises doubts. The contents of the contract were therefore requested , to examine its usefulness from every point of view”.
At Rome Termini, at the departure of the Frecciarossa with the livery dedicated to Sanremo 2024, there were, among others, Luigi CorradiCEO and general manager of Trenitalia, e Giampaolo Rossi general director of Rai. Also on board the train were the presenters of Rai Radio 2, Emma Stockholm e Andrea Delogu.
From the disappointment of the Northern League, now clear, it is clear that the Carroccio fears that something else is hidden behind the Frecciarossa agreement. In fact, it is no mystery that Rossi, man of Fratelli d’Italia in viale Mazzini, aims to replace the CEO Roberto Sergio and that Corradi has the Ferrovie dello Stato holding company in his sights, where the CEO Luigi Ferraris is out of office.
From Trenitalia they explain that “the Frecciarossa bound for Sanremo on Sunday 4 February was a charter train, a service regularly offered by Trenitalia. The Sanremo Festival is the most followed event in Italy and one of the most followed events in the world; and the train dedicated to Sanremo is continuing to circulate in Italy, with a positive return on image. The initiative was born in the name of sustainability and, thanks to the train, the journey was also less impactful from the point of view of Co2 emissions. Around 60 journalists from as many newspapers accredited to the Festival also traveled on the Frecciarossa”.
The opposition also intervenes in the matter. Raffaella Shirt (Italia Viva) asks that Salvini come to report to the Chamber. While the group leader of the Greens and Left Alliance in the Transport commission of the Chamber, Francesca Ghirrafrom the minister came “an intervention completely outside the competence of his ministry; the act can also be defined by its name: censorship”.
