Controversy over Allotment Gardens on Petersberg: City Council Faces Backlash

Fewer allotment gardens on Petersberg?

But another idea from the framework plan is currently causing a lot of excitement. Accordingly, a dozen allotment gardens in the Petersberg complex are to be “polished”. “Not with us,” many a city councilor posted last week. Green City Councilor David Maicher is still holding back: “We are having a conversation about this with the city leadership in the week after Easter. I first want to hear what the reason for dismantling the gardens could be,” he told MDR THÜRINGEN.

He hopes that the framework plan will reach the city council before the upcoming local elections: “Otherwise the new city council will start from scratch with perhaps a new composition.”

Allotment gardeners outraged by suggestion

Frank Möller, chairman of the city association of allotment gardeners, also needs to talk. “On April 2nd we will hear what the city has to say about these master plan ideas.” He can hardly hide the fact that he is outraged that this could even be up for debate. “We have lost almost 140 gardens in Erfurt in the last four years. They were dug up without replacement,” he criticizes.

Head of Ordnance: Find compromises

The gardens are rarely a source of noise. The allotment gardeners also feel that Petersberg has not only changed its face but also its use with the Federal Garden Show.

There is more hustle and bustle on the mountain. “We wanted to revitalize it and now we have to find compromises so that everyone gets along,” says Andreas Horn (CDU), head of the public order department. The test in the summer will show what his Erfurt guides can achieve.
