Controversy in Linz: Trees Cut Down Next to New RLB Building While City Plants More for Climate Cooling

That sounds really strange: In the new RLB building next to the Südbahnhofmarkt, around 30 trees are being cut down in collaboration with Linz city planning, while just a few hundred meters further 30 trees are being ceremoniously planted by the city for €900,000 in order to cool the city’s climate.

“One of the trees has a circumference of over three meters and is probably over 100 years old. The entire full-grown avenue along Goethestrasse has to give way because a huge underground car park has been approved there. The bottom line is: zero gain for the climate, but one million euros in damage for the city,” says Linzplus, which uncovered this prank.

Linzplus is now demanding that the RLB (annual profit for 2022: 132 million euros) should pay for this damage.
