In Khabarovsk, in kindergarten No. 137, competition participants were given certificates with the state symbols of Ukraine – the coat of arms and flag.
The city’s education department told RIA Novosti on December 11 that the cause of the “unacceptable situation” was the mistake of the physical education instructor, who “downloaded the certificate template on the Internet, printed it out and brought it to the competition.”
The certificates were confiscated and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident began. “We will conduct conversations and exams with all employees of educational institutions regarding knowledge of Russian symbols,” representatives of the department promised.
December 12, Mayor of Khabarovsk Sergei Kravchuk announcedthat the head of kindergarten No. 137 and the physical education instructor, “understanding their responsibility for the incident,” wrote letters of resignation. Kravchuk said that he apologizes to the kindergarten students and their parents.
“I have decided to hold additional events on the objectives of patriotic education with the staff of all preschool educational institutions in the city of Khabarovsk,” the mayor added.
Stories regularly appear in Russian propaganda media about citizens’ complaints about the use of “Ukrainian symbols.” Thus, in May it was reported that in Tatarstan a children’s group performed in yellow-blue costumes (colors of the flag of Ukraine – approx. “Jellyfish”), against the backdrop of the “For Peace” banner. Representatives of the House of Culture of the city of Agryz, where the concert took place, had to explain that the costumes did not carry any political connotations. “It’s all a coincidence, our area is a little poor, what we have is what we wear, without political overtones,” stated then I will “Rise” in the administration of the House of Culture.
