Recently, the Ministry of National Defense came under fire for listing Dokdo as a territorial dispute area in the military’s mental strength textbook, while the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning and marked Dokdo as its territory, which is expected to spark controversy.
On the 1st, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning and advisory for its coast and included Dokdo in the advisory area as if it were its territory.
Earlier this afternoon, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred in the northern waters of the Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
Looking at the tsunami warning and advisory status map posted by the Japan Meteorological Agency on its website that day, a ‘large tsunami warning’ was issued in purple in the Noto area of Ishikawa Prefecture, where an earthquake of up to 7.6 occurred.
‘Tsunami warning’ was displayed in red in Fukui and Toyama prefectures.
During this process, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a ‘Tsunami Advisory’ in yellow to Hokkaido and Tottori Prefecture, including Dokdo with Takeshima (the Japanese government’s name for Dokdo).

This effectively defines Dokdo as Japanese territory.
The Japan Meteorological Agency, an agency under the Japanese government, has been issuing various weather forecasts including Dokdo in its territory, reflecting the Japanese government’s position.
South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to respond sternly, saying that Dokdo is clearly Korea’s unique territory historically, geographically, and under international law.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense is expected to be recalled once again for labeling Dokdo as an area of territorial dispute with Japan in its mental strength training textbook for military service members last month.

On this day, the Liberation Association issued a statement saying, “The Minister of National Defense’s greatest duty is to protect the homeland, but even the basic attitude has been forgotten.”
The Liberation Association said, “Dokdo is Republic of Korea’s territory, and our attitude toward Japan must not be pushed back even an inch in the future,” and added, “The ‘insane mental power textbook’ compiled by the Ministry of National Defense has been damaging to the deviant words and actions of Minister of National Defense Shin Won-sik, his historical consciousness, and the identity of the Republic of Korea and the military. “I have doubts about whether it is a reflection of a distorted perception of the situation,” he said.
