It was supposed to be the press conference to present «The long night: the fall of the Duce», a Rai fiction produced by Luca Barbareschi and it turned into yet another controversy.
According to the complaint from the Usigrai and UniRai unions, the actor scolded the journalist who was leading the meeting with the press, in Viale Mazzini, asking her to limit herself to acting as a moderator.
Barbareschi was talking about the new generation’s ability to understand historical events when the press office tried to intervene. And here the actor said: “You act as a journalist to me, but you just have to introduce us, then the journalists ask the questions.” To the protests of some of those present about his abrupt manner, the actor replied: “Yes, I’m very forward, I don’t want to waste time.” And he continued his speech.
It is the usual way of the Rai press office to introduce press conferences with some questions which have the aim of focusing the attention of the newspapers on some qualifying points of the product. But Barbareschi didn’t like it and would have addressed the press office journalist in the described manner abruptly.
This was enough to raise the protest of Usigrai and the Cdr of the Rai press office who defined Barbareschi’s attitude as “unacceptable, arrogant and rude”, whose sentences “humiliate, offend and do not recognize the journalistic quality of the work carried out by all the journalists who make up the Rai Press Office”.
Unirai also expressed solidarity with the press office whose work «not always valorised, is fundamental in the promotion of the company product and cannot be ridiculed by incomprehensible behavior and declarations on the part of external productions».
