Controversy at Climate March: Greta Thunberg and Political Messages

The march left at 1 p.m. and the route ran from Dam Square to Museum Square, where participants could listen to debates and speeches, including from Greta Thunberg. When the speaker before her, Sahar Shirzad, pleaded for solidarity with the Palestinians using the controversial slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, it provoked an uproar from the audience, after which the speech was interrupted.

Thunberg gave the floor back to Shirzad a little later, but that was not to the liking of a man who came on stage and wanted to take the microphone from Thunberg. He said he had come for a climate demonstration, not for political messages. Thunberg said in her speech that there “can be no climate justice in occupied land.”
