Controversy Arises Over Barbie and Oppenheimer Movie Marketing

And a number of pioneers of communication platforms in the Asian country published the “NoBarbenheimer” hashtag to express their refusal to co-market the pink Barbie fantasy movie with images of nuclear explosions in the Oppenheimer era.

The American “Warner Brothers” company published on its official account a poster showing Oppenheimer’s actor Cillian Murphy holding Barbie’s heroine Margot Robbie in front of a background of flames, commenting, “It will be an unforgettable summer.”

In response, the official page of “Warner Bros. Japan” published a statement on the X platform, which said: “Since the films Barbie and Oppenheimer were released in the United States on July 21, there is currently a movement led by fans from abroad to watch them together (#Barbenheimer).”

The text of the statement added, “This movement by fans from the official US account of the Barbie movie is very unfortunate. We take this matter very seriously and ask the US head office to take appropriate action. We apologize to those who were offended by these reckless actions.”

The sensitivity of the topic covered by Oppenheimer’s film is due to the fact that it is a biography that tells about the world that stood behind the manufacture of the atomic bombs that were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.
