Thousands of citizens marched in different cities of the country. Although the day in its generality has been carried out calmly, in the midst of the demonstrations in Cali a great controversy has arisen due to the statements that made the vice president Francia Márquez.
During an intervention, Márquez defended tooth and nail the so-called First Linea, a group made up of several young people who became known during the demonstrations that took place on April 28, 2021.
“I’m not afraid to say here: ‘long live the ‘front line’. Many of them were murdered, their eyes gouged out, they were imprisoned and today the people tell them we are with you and we will not forget you. For this reason, when I walked with them, they asked me for an education and the tax reform that was approved is aimed at that objective,” said the vice president while hundreds of young people supported her.
The issue of the first line always arouses controversy in the country, since there are those who support them considering that it was thanks to them that the tax reform presented by the then Government of Iván Duque could be knocked down, while many citizens do not forget acts of vandalism and criminals they committed, such as the murder of a of a motorcyclist in the vicinity of the Portal de las Américas, who was decapitated by a cable that the youths crossed on the road.
Despite this controversy, the vice president expressed her full support: “I begin by asking for a minute of applause for the working men and women of this country who were assassinated by the oligarchy. A huge round of applause for those leaders, men and women who raised their voices of struggle and resistance.”
Besides that, Márquez assured that many are annoyed that she goes out to march and again used a challenging tone: “There are those who say that why am I here, because they expect me to stay there in the house of Nariño tucked in, well no and they got screwed because I am a woman of the territory, I am a woman of the people and that is why today I am marching with you , claiming the rights of workers and workers in this country”.
