Controversy Arises as Hanan Shawky Claims Mohamed Ramadan’s Series “Jaafar Al-Omda” is Not Original

The Egyptian artist, Hanan Shawky, raised a state of controversy in the past hours, after she revealed that the series “Jaafar Al-Omda”, which was shown last Ramadan by the artist Mohamed Ramadan, is not a new idea, as it was presented during an old series of hers.

These statements came during her hosting of a television program, as she said that the art scene in Egypt currently lacks the presence of real creators and writers, while there are genius authors sitting at home without work, including the great writer Bashir El Deek.

Hanan confirmed that the idea of the series, which revolves around the hero’s marriage to four women, was discussed during her series “Bayt Al-Basha”, in which she collaborated with the star Salah Al-Saadani, and also dealt with the series “The Hajj Metwally Family”, which was presented by the late star Nour Al-Sharif and achieved great successes at the time.

She indicated that she does not care who borrowed the idea from the other because her series is the basis, but what matters to her is that good series appear on the screen that carry creative and purposeful ideas and rely on the creators and exploit them instead of marginalizing them.

On the other hand, rumors circulated during the recent period that Hanan Shawky had retired from artistic life, after activists circulated a picture of her with the hijab, claiming that she had permanently worn it and made the decision.

She responded to these allegations through press statements, explaining that she did not wear the hijab, but this photo was taken during the Eid al-Fitr prayer through her friend, to document the celebration of this occasion. As for her retirement from artistic life, she confirmed that she had not made this final decision, and the evidence for that is her willingness to enter a new theatrical tournament.

It is noteworthy that Shawky’s latest work is a series entitled “Ayla Saleh”, which she presented in 2017 in cooperation with Medhat Saleh, Sawsan Badr, Inaam Salousa, Marwa Abdel Moneim, during which she discussed a number of social issues within the framework of comedy.
