Flamengo beat Atlético-MG, by 2-1, but the victory went into the background, after the confusion that happened after the game. The physical trainer of Jorge Sampaoli’s technical team attacked Pedro with a punch, the player lodged a complaint with the police and the other footballers now refuse to return to training until that member of the technical body is dismissed.
The Brazilian press explains that it all started on the pitch. During the game Luiz Araújo and Everton Cebolinha entered the field and Pedro, who was warming up, decided to sit on the bench. When the match ended, Pablo Fernández, the physical trainer, confronted the striker with what happened, telling him that the attitude had been a lack of respect. Pedro responded, saying that those who do not respect him are Sampaoli’s technical team. The Argentine did not like the alleged ‘insolence’ and punched him in the mouth.
The remaining players sided with Pedro and are now demanding the physical coach’s resignation. In fact, according to ESPN Brasil, the pressure from the squad is for the entire technical team to leave the club and the management knows that the departure of Pablo Fernández alone would not be enough to stop the crisis. Sampaoli has a contract until the end of 2024.
Player files complaint
Pedro went to the police after the game to file a complaint against Pablo Fernández. According to the Brazilian press, he was accompanied by a lawyer. Pablo Fernández also gave testimony, in addition to four witnesses: defender Pablo, striker and former Benfica player, Everton Cebolinha, midfielder Thiago Maia and coordinator Gabriel Andreata.
Later, the player left a publication on social networks: “I could be here talking about the few minutes played in the last few games, but what happened today was more serious than what can happen inside the four lines. Cowardly, without reason and Inexplicably, I was attacked, with a punch in the face, by Pablo Fernandez, a member of Sampaoli’s technical team.”
And he continued: “Physical cowardice has overcome the psychological cowardice that I have suffered in recent weeks.
