Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Victory Malaysia over India, 4-2 in the semifinals of Partaibola Merdeka, marked by a number of controversies at the Bukit Jalil Stadium, Friday (13/10).
Malaysia quickly took the lead through Dion Cools’ acrobatic goal in the seventh minute after taking advantage of the chaos in the Indian penalty box.
The visiting Indian team responded well after scoring the equalizer through Mahesh Naorem’s shot in the 13th minute following Sahal Abdul Samad’s heel pass.

Malaysia immediately recovered by taking a 2-1 lead again in the 20th minute through Arif Aiman’s penalty kick. Faisal Halim’s goal in the 42nd minute gave Harimau Malaya a 3-1 lead in the first half.
In the second half, the Blue Tigers, nicknamed India, came back by reducing the deficit to 2-3 through senior striker Sunnil Chhetri’s goal in the 51st minute.
India was able to score another goal to equalize 3-3 in the 56th minute through Lallianzuala Chhangte. However, the referee did not approve the goal because it had not touched the goal net.
In the replay, the ball that Chhangte kicked had crossed the goal line, but was immediately thrown by Dion Cools.
La’Vere Corbing-Ong added to India’s suffering by giving Malaysia a 4-2 lead in the 61st minute.
In the 88th minute, one of the Malaysian players was deemed to have handball in the penalty box. But again, this was not an advantage for India to get a penalty kick.
Without additional goals in the rest of the match, Malaysia won 4-2 over India. The victory brought Malaysia to the Merdeka Pestabola final against Tajikistan at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Tuesday (17/10).
